"Trust and support": The IMF deputy director endorsed Luis Caputo's economic program.


During his recent trip to the United States to strengthen the relationship between the National Government and the International Monetary Fund ( IMF), the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo , met with Gita Gopinath, First Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, who expressed her support for Argentina's economic plan.
"Excellent meeting with Gita Gopintah and her team. We discussed the evolution of the economic program and future challenges. The deputy managing director once again expressed her confidence and support," Caputo commented on his X account after the meeting with Gopintah in Washington, United States.
During their trip, Caputo and his entourage met with various government and IMF officials who expressed their support for the economic program promoted by President Javier Milei and Caputo himself within the framework of the new $20 billion loan. In this context, IMF President Kristalina Georgieva said: "This time there is a determination to put the economy on a solid path. The country went from a high deficit to a surplus; from double-digit inflation to less than 3% in February; from poverty above 50% to now around 37%."

Caputo was accompanied by Finance Secretary Pablo Quirno and Central Bank President Santiago Bausili. Quirno met with French Minister of Finance and Industry Éric Lombard to express his gratitude for France's support in the negotiations between Argentina and the IMF. Lombard, like Georgieva and Gonpintah, celebrated the "success" of Argentina's economic program; the two also discussed potential investments by French companies in the country.
On Wednesday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reaffirmed his support for Argentina's policies. Bessent, one of the most senior officials in Donald Trump 's second administration, stated: "Argentina deserves the IMF's support because the country is making significant progress in meeting fiscal parameters. It's a perfect example ." The American also mentioned the possible line of credit Argentina could access in the event of an "external economic shock."
